Danville, IL – With a 74-72 win over Essex Country GRCC's men's basketball team advances to the Quarter Final round of NJCAA Division II National Tournament play to face #3 seeded Louisburg College. The Raiders were led by sophomore Arthur Pearson who finished the night with 25 points, 8 rebounds, 5 assists and a steal shooting 10-of-17 from the field. Jeffrey Drake-Todd delivered 21 points (5 of 8 from behind the arc) with 5 assists and 3 steals. Zachary Pangborn's 18 point performance (5 of 10 from three's) included 11 of GRCC's final 15 points while Maxwell Prendergast finished with 10 rebounds and four blocks.
Box Score Danville, IL – GRCC's men's basketball team heads to the consolation bracket following a 73-81 loss to Louisburg College last night. The Raiders fought back from a 12 point deficit early in the first half to take their first lead before the half. Despite a close score and several lead changes, GRCC couldn't get enough shots to fall in to earn a win shooting 13-for-29 from the field in the second half while making only 1-of-10 from behind the arc. Jeffrey Drake-Todd scored 20 points for the Raiders making 9-of-10 from the line while just 5-of -17 from the field. Drake Todd added 5 rebounds and 4 assists.
Danville, IL. – It was quite the season, actually, it was one of the best seasons in the history of the GRCC Men's Basketball program. The Raiders finished in 6th place overall at the NJCAA Division II National Tournament last week (March 21-25), which was the best finish since former head coach David Selmon's team finished as the National Runner-Up in 1995.
Grand Rapids, MI. -- On April 13, the NJCAA Division II Men's Basketball Committee released its selections for the 2016-2017 All-American Teams. A familiar name was listed under First Team All-American, Sophomore, Jeffrey Drake-Todd. The six foot guard is the first in GRCC Men's Basketball history to be named First Team All-American. Drake-Todd can add this award to the growing number of awards he has won for his efforts this past season. Which include, NJCAA Division II National All-Tournament Team, Region XII, District 9 Tournament MVP, GRCC Donald R. Black Male Athlete of the Year, First Team All-Region XII and First Team All-Conference.
Grand Rapids, Mich. - Maxwell Prendergast will be taking his basketball talents to Northern Michigan University where he will play for the NCAA Division II Wildcats of Marquette, Michigan. The 6 foot 7 center from West Catholic High School spent this past year playing for the Raiders and spent his freshman season at Davenport University.
Grand Rapids, Mich – GRCC's basketball teams hosted Mott Community College this week and finished with wins as the men topped Mott's #8 Bears 88-76 while the women delivered a 67-49 victory. The win leaves the women at 1-1 on the season following an opening game loss to Aquinas College JV 46-60. GRCC's men improved to 2-0 after taking down the JV Saints 96-69. Leading the charge for the women were Mya Jordan and Makayla Beld. Jordan finished with a cool 21 rebound 18 point double-double while adding an assist and a steal. Beld finished with a double-double of her own of 15 rebounds and 24 points. Hallee Breimayer finished with 7 points and a team high 5 steals.
Kalamazoo, MICH – Men's basketball finishes the KVCC Showcase 1-1 with an 108-94 win over #5 Schoolcraft and a 82-91 loss to unranked Delta to bring their record to 3-1 on the year. The Raiders are now 3-1 overall. Curtis Davison went off for GRCC against Schoolcraft finishing with 40 points and four steals. Davison was 13-of-26 from the field—10-of-15 from behind the arc. 30 of Davison's 40 points were delivered in the second half.
Box Score Grand Rapids, MICH – GRCC's men's basketball picked up their fourth win last Friday downing Davenport University's JV Panthers 101-69 led by Curtis Davison who finished the night with 30 points, 9 rebounds and two assists in just over 21 minutes of play. Every Raider on the team had the opportunity to play this past Friday with most seeing significant time on the floor. All but one Raider finished the night having added some points to the scoreboard.
Grand Rapids, MICH – GRCC's men's basketball team improved to 6-1 overall following a 102-79 win over Grace Bible College JV. The Raiders were led by Curtis Davison who finished the night 14-of-26 from the field for 37 points making 5-of-13 from behind the arc and 4-of-5 from the line. Davison added a team high 6 steals. Anthony McIntosh finished the night with 19 points and seven rebounds. Ca'Nas Coleman earned a double-double with 12 rebounds and 10 points while contributing 2 steals and 3 assists. Zachary Pangborn led the team in assists with 5 shooting 4-of-7 from the field and 2-of-3 from the line for 10 points.
Grand Rapids, MICH – GRCC's basketball teams travel to Flint tonight for a double header against Mott Community College. The women will get the night started at 5:30PM. The Raiders will arrive with a 5-3 overall record having won their last two games—including a 56-46 win over Calvin JV on Monday to even the record with the Knights after taking a 46-73 loss on November 27th.
